Oldham Athletic 2015/16 Kit Design

Remember when as a kid you used to scribble down kit designs for teams all over the world!? Come on! we all did it!

Well when Oldham Athletic asked to see what creations Eden could come up with for their 2015/16 strip – I jumped at the chance!

I wanted to create something that actually meant something to the club, rather than just designing ‘another’ kit. I am a strong believer that football clubs kits should carry the clubs identity and remain similar year on year – good examples are Arsenal, always red shirt with white sleeves and white shorts, Chelsea always wear blue shirts, blue shorts white socks and Liverpool, all red. In my opinion (and it is only my opinion) Latics are ‘the boys in blue’ maybe this is because through my time supporting the team (since the mid 80’s) we have played in the mainly all blue strips – with the introduction of white socks for a few seasons and also a few pairs of white shorts thrown in for good measure too.

We presented a number of designs to the club, a few based on current kit trends at the time and a couple of designs based on ‘kits of the past’. But for the club there was one concept that stood out without a shadow of a doubt, this would be the kit the team would wear during the 15/16 campaign. The design was titled ‘Champions’, this was originally a developed replica of the kit Latics wore in that game vs Sheffield Wednesday on the 11th May 1991 – that day they took the Division Two title.

As in the early 90’s red was the chosen colour for the away kit, (which is basically a reversed version of the home strip). As expected there were a few grumbles “red, we don’t wear red”, although the older generation will remember that the away kit was was this very colour throughout the clubs most successful spell (the ‘pinch me’ seasons).

When the kit was revealed back in May the inital feedback from the fans was very positive – and hopefully, this kit will prove to be a fans favourite and be one of the best selling Oldham Athletic kits of all time!
